Virtual Cooking Classes: A Melting Pot
Three Cuisines. Three Stories. One Delicious Melting Pot.
About the Experience
Virtual cooking classes are back! During this 3-class series, we’re taking a deep dive into the melting pot. This is series is not just about how to cook food. It’s a story of migration, colonization, and the cultural exchange that has shaped the food we love to eat. Over the course of three classes, we’ll explore dishes from three different cultures: Mexican, Somali, and Creole. While each meal has its own distinct flavors, the underlying theme demonstrates that the boundaries between cuisines are often much less rigid than we often imagine. * Sunday October 4 - Mexico: Picadillo with Arroz Rojo, Mexican Chocolate Brownies * Sunday November 8 - Somalia: Digaag Qumbe (Chicken Stew with Yogurt and Coconut), Turmeric Rice, Doolsho (Cardamom Cake) * Sunday December 6 - Creole: Shrimp and Sausage Jambalaya, Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce Each class starts at 4:00 pm Pacific Time and runs for approximately 90 minutes. Chef Jennifer walks you through each step, explaining culinary techniques, providing cooking tips, and throwing in fun food facts along the way. By the time you shut off your computer screen, a tasty two-course Sunday supper will be ready to serve.
